While Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of the more anticipated releases on the 3DS, it’s long development time, and delays means we won’t be enjoying Pit for a couple of months. Thankfully, Flip Industries is making the wait bearable, with their recent release of Super Kid Icarus.

Super Kid Icarus is a 16-bit remake of the classic 8-bit Nintendo game. While it would have been cool to try this out on the SNES, you can now enjoy the game for free, in your browser, by visiting Flip Industries’ website. The game features cheats, which can be enabled or disabled, meaning both casual players and purists can enjoy the game. A level/map editor will be released, but only when the game receives a total of 950 “support points” (Facebook likes and Google 1+s).

  • This is JonLeung of VGMaps.com: The Video Game Atlas.

I would like to let you know that the game is not an original creation of Flip Industries, and was actually envisioned by me as an April Fool’s joke for my own web site back in 2007. You can see for yourself here: http://www.vgmaps.com/NewsArchives/April2007/index.htm#SuperKidIcarus

You see, between April 2005 and 2009, VGMaps.com has had maps of “fake” games as an April Fool’s joke to be selected as the “Maps Of The Month”. Among these are possible maps for The Legend Of Zelda: Oracle Of Hours (based on the cancelled GBC game, http://vgmaps.com/NewsArchives/April2008/index.htm#LegendOfZeldaOracleOfHours ) as well as Metroid Dread (the rumoured 2D Metroid game, http://vgmaps.com/NewsArchives/April2009/index.htm#MetroidDread ).

Now, regarding Super Kid Icarus, the maps themselves are a strict tile replacement of the original game’s maps, so I’m certainly not as angry as with the multitude of people who have wanted to use my other map projects for their games without asking. However, there was still some effort involved, and considering the publicity that Flip Industries’ Super Kid Icarus is getting, without having ever mentioned VGMaps.com as far as I can tell, I can’t help but speak up that credit should be given where it’s due.

lol, I love how the only comment here is a spam bot / link generator.

But about the game — well, it’s good but would be better on the 3DS, using a keyboard sucks lol

then again I am a kid icarus fanboy a bit……
