While video games in general may rot your brain the action genre (Such as First Person Shooters) actually improve your contrast sensitivity there by improving your vision. The researchers took Non-Video Game players and split them into two groups. The control group played The Sims 2 and the experiment group played Unreal Tournament 2004, and Call of Duty 2. The end result was
- “Playing action video games resulted in an enhanced CSF and a shorter integration time for contrast sensitivity” (i.e. you can see finer detail and react to it faster)
- Sitting in front of your computer screen for extended periods does not degrade your vision.
- The improvements lasted months to years after the participants stopped playing action games.
