Hayao Miyazaki is Inducted Into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame
Considered the Walt Disney of the anime world, Hayao Miyazaki has given us some of the greatest animated films, from his early work on Lupin III to the more recent The Wind Rises, which was his last film before retiring from directing (although it’s entirely possible he could come out of directing retirement once again). Located in Seattle, Washington, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame announced that along with four others, including Stanley Kubrick, Miyazaki will be inducted into their hall of fame. He will join other big names such as George Lucas, James Cameron and Stephen Spielberg as directors to receive the honor.
Mamoru Oshii Receives Lifetime Achievement Award From Fantasia
You might not be as familiar with Oshii’s name as Miyazaki’s, but he was the director for one of the most game-changing anime of all time: Ghost in the Shell. The Fantasia International Film Festival has announced that they are going to be rewarding Mamoru Oshii with their lifetime achievement award, which will then be followed by a screening of the new HD remastered version of the original Ghost in the Shell film. The Fantasia Film Festival will take place in Montreal from July 17-August 5.
