It has been over 15 years since the initial Japanese release, but next spring, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers will finally come to North America. Soul Hackers is a first-person dungeon crawler that originated on the Sega Saturn. Like other Shin Megami Tensei games you’ll be squaring off against demons; however, the game uses the negotiation system to recruit demons used in the original SMT games, rather than the straight battle system newer Persona fans are familiar with.
The story centers on a technologically-advanced city that (surprise) holds some dark secrets. You play as a group of hackers searching for a mystical society that has been pulling strings behind the scenes. The 3DS release features updates to the gameplay and graphics and will feature 30 demons not seen in the original. You can catch a glimpse of gameplay mixed with animated cutscenes in the trailer below, and check back here and at the newly-launched Soul Hackers website for more information.
