Battlefield 3 has been out for just over a month, but its first map pack/expansion is already set for release. The “Back to Karkand” DLC pack features fan-favorite maps from Battlefield 2, which have been re-tooled with the Frostbite 2.0 engine, offering better graphics and destruction. Back to Karkand features 4 maps, including Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Strike at Karkand. Furthermore, the DLC will also include 10 weapons from Battlefield 2, 3 vehicles from Battlefield 2 alongisde 1 new one, new achievements/trophies and in-game rewards, a new game mode titled “Conquest Assault”, extended persistence within the ranking system, and new “assignments”, which allow you to unlock the suite of new weapons.
While the PS3 version drops today (due to an exclusivity deal between EA and Sony), the PC and Xbox 360 versions will drop next Tuesday. Back to Karkand retails for $14.99/1200 MSP, but those who purchased the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3 (which is essentially any copy from the first printing) will receive the pack for free.
