IGN’s digital distribution platform, Direct2Drive, has reportedly been sold to video game rental service Gamefly  according to sources talking to MCV.  The official announcement will come next week.

Up until now Gamefly has only been a physical disc rental service only.   They had said that they would not be adding PC games to their catalog due to the legal issues involved in installing a game to the users hard drive.

With this purchase they would be able to expand their offerings but it also puts them at odds with several digital distributors.  Right now they pretty much have no competition.    Now they have to worry about Steam, OnLive, GOG, and many smaller services. Big Risk, Big Reward?
