The Valkyria Chronicles series began its life with a beautiful PS3 RPG. The two sequels were then moved to the PlayStation Portable, but Sega has said they won’t be localizing Valkyria Chronicles III for North America and Europe. Now, the series has moved to a new format and a new platform: Sega has announced Valkyria Chronicles Duel (Senjou no Valkyria Duel in Japanese) for PC and smartphones.
This new title is a browser-based card dueling game, a far cry from the original PS3 title that garnered such critical acclaim. Valkyria Chronicles Duel will feature over two hundred character cards, including familiar faces from previous games, that can be used to build your armies. Skirmishes will be displayed in 3D and the characters will still be able to activate their potentials to help turn the tide of battle.
Valkyria Chronicles Duel will be free-to-play with microtransactions, and there’s no word if they will make an English interface. The game is in beta testing until June 25th, but for those who can read Japanese, you can check out the site here. You can also check out the official trailer below.
What do you guys think? Is this just to tide fans over until the next big release or is this a sign of the fall of Valkyria Chronicles?
