Last year, Valve announced that a Portal 2 level editor would be coming out, and it looks like that day has finally arrived, no thanks to ‘Valve Time’. The Portal 2 Perpetual Testing Initiative, which is just a fancy way of saying level editor, will be released on May 8th, for PC and Mac OS X versions of the game. While the editor won’t see its way onto consoles, PS3 owners are able to redeem a copy of the game on Steam (sorry Xbox 360 users, we got the short end of the stick on this one).
The level editor will be accessible in the Steam Workshop, where players can create and share levels to their hearts content. As you can see in the trailer above, the level editor features a simple-to-use user interface, which is much more manageable than the Valve Hammer Editor. As always, this update to the game will be free, which is good news for those who have bankrupted themselves by buying hats for Atlus, P-Body, and the gang from Team Fortress 2.
