UPDATE (12:55 pm):  Major Nelson announced by twitter that there will be a slight delay in the update.  Further details are due later today Pacific time.

Your Xbox 360 will be receiving a facelift today. The new dashboard uses the same UI and design language seen in Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 (METRO). This means that while you can use a controller to navigate the menus, Microsoft really designed it to be used with Kinect. This includes hand swiping to change menus and voice controls.

Some new features will include voice search powered by BING, cloud saving of profiles and game save data, and the ability to use the XBOX as your cable box. The voice search requires a Kinect sensor. You can’t just use your headset. The cloud saves feature requires an Gold Live subscription. In the event that your subscription runs out you will still be able to access your cloud saves but you won’t be able to upload any more files or update the ones already there.

Now to use the Xbox as your cable box you first need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Some services require extra fees (such as Netflix or Sky Go) while others are free to all Gold Subscribers. Check out the full list of partners and release dates below.
