The Australian Federal Cabinet has approved an adult rating for computer games. The rating, referred to as R18+, will be equivalent to M (ESRB) or PEGI 18. Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor will submit the official position to the Attorneys General’s at their next annual meeting. For the new rating to take affect there are 3 steps.
First you get Federal Approval. Done.
Second you get the Attorneys General’s to approve the ranking at their annual meeting. Possible.
Third you then have a general referendum for the voters. There is currently a 90%+ approval among the general populace so this is pretty much a definite.
