GeekendHey there, Geekenders! This weekend was our big Extra Life event! Thanks to all of you for coming to join us and for your donations. As a result, there’s more than enough gaming to talk about this week!

Check out our thoughts below and let us know what’s gotten you excited this week in the worlds of anime, gaming, and manga down in the comments.

This week I managed to finally play the Pokémon ORAS demo !

Although the demo is short it did not disappoint and it gave me a taster of what’s to come upon the official release next month. When playing the demo, you are given a Glalie- which then becomes a mega Glalie, and the cool thing about it is you can transfer the Pokémon to the full game when you get it. I also got some items which can also be transferred, like heart scales so I will be using those too. I still have yet to download the code for Mega Gengar, as he is one of my fav Pokémon so can’t miss out on that!

Watching Sword Art Online II with my fiancée, playing Kid Icarus Uprising and Smash 4. Having a great time with everyone in Extra Life!

Thanks to Extra Life, I got in plenty of game time this week. I almost finished Ar no Surge, so that should be easy to knock out next week. I really want to see how they resolve the story, as there are some really interesting fourth-wall breaking elements to it. During the stream, I got in a surprising amount of Final Fantasy XIV time with Jenn and Jimmy. It was the first time in months that any of us played it, and we ran a few dungeons after getting Jimmy up to those quests. Who knows, maybe our dreams of having a TGB free company on FFXIV will come true, soon?

I also put in a lot of time on Samurai Warriors 4, which in some respects is quite better than Dynasty Warriors due to the extra in-battle objective system being more well-tuned, but I think I like the cast of characters in Dynasty Warriors more. On stream, I also showed off Fairy Fencer F, The Guided Fate Paradox and Persona 4 Arena for a while.

This week was all about prepping for Extra Life, and we had quite a day. I started off the marathon with the first DLC area from Dark Souls II, and my months away from the game made for some very entertaining deaths. Unfortunately, I got stuck on the first boss of the area, but I’ll hopefully continue this attempt in another Let’s Play later. I also ran through the first five worlds of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. This game is really fun, with creative level design and visual direction, responsive controls, and a great soundtrack. Its also very difficult, and I chalked up plenty of deaths in this one, too (starting to see a pattern…). After Jennifer and Dan led me through the opening quests of Final Fantasy XIV, we tried going through a few dungeons. This is actually a lot of fun, especially with the matchmaking system that paired us with other players. So far, these Light Party raids are my favorite part of the game, and it might just be enough to get me to start playing more regularly. We closed off the night with the opening hours of Alien: Isolation, which creates an impressively tense and stressful atmosphere. While I didn’t make a lot of progress (partially due to drowsiness setting in), the game has me ready for more. With only a few hours left in our stream, we played a roulette of Steam games, including Left 4 Dead 2, Papers Please, and a surprisingly successful attempt at FTL.
