Wizards of the Coast has teamed up with Sony Online Entertainment to create a new Magic: The Gathering title. While the teaser video for Magic: The Gathering – Tactics below doesn’t show gameplay footage yet, the press release indicates that the game will be an “online, 3-D turn-based strategy game” that features spells, creatures and characters from the Magic: The Gathering collectable card game.
At this point, there isn’t a great deal of information to go on, but Wizards says that “Magic: The Gathering – Tactics will allow players to command forces of dramatic 3D figures and powerful spell cards pulled from the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse. Players can participate in single player scenarios or jump right into PVP action against other players worldwide, 24 hours per day.”And true to Magic form, there are multiple content expansions planned already.
Personally, when I first heard the announcement, I was hoping for something like the old Microprose Magic: The Gathering game, but it doesn’t quite sound like that. The game is due out on PC in “early 2010” with a PlayStation 3 release to follow shortly after. According to the game’s website, beta signups will be coming out soon, so be on the lookout for that.
