Aksys Games is bringing Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward to North America later this year. Alternatively shortened to “VLR” and known as Zennin Shiboudesu in Japan, this is the second title in the Zero Escape series. The first was 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, which was released here in 2010.
999 followed protagonist Junpei as he played a game of life or death with eight other people. Aksys has said that some characters from the first game will appear in VLR along with several new ones. Similar to 999, VLR will include puzzle-solving sections, visual novel stages, and multiple endings to its mysterious tale.
Aksys’ press release talked about VLR like a virus that escaped quarantine, calling it a dangerous strain of adventure game that should be avoided and listing the game’s features as “symptoms.” The company even listed the location on the press release as a “Regional Office of the International Disease Organization.” Whether this wording reflects anything about the game’s plot remains to be seen.
Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward will be available for the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and via download on the PlayStation Network.
